The 23rd annual Black History Celebration Lecture of the Conscious Lyrics Foundation (CLF) will be delivered in St. Martin this weekend by Dr. Kurt B. Young from Clark Atlanta University, said CLF president Shujah Reiph.
The lecture will take place at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Spring Concordia, Marigot, on Saturday, February 23, at 8 pm.
"The theme of the 2014 lecture is ‘Colonialism.’ The idea is to keep awakening levels of consciousness about our relationship with France and Holland; with ourselves as to who we want to be; and even to address those who still ask if both parts of St. Martin are still colonies?" said Reiph.
Dr. Young is the Department Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University in the US city of Atlanta. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and earlier degrees in history. Dr. Young has presented papers and reviews in journals on culture, Black consciousness, and the future of Pan-Africanism.
A dynamic speaker, the Belize-born Dr. Young has done extensive research on Caribbean leaders and scholars such as Marcus Garvey, Frantz Fanon, and Walter Rodney, said Reiph.
