SXM Airport to Talk to Simpson Bay Community Council about Developments

The Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), is set to approach the Simpson Bay Community Council to discuss developments at the Airport as part of its program to engage the community in its Capital Improvement Program.

According to Managing Director, Regina LaBega, this is in keeping with the vision and policy of SXM Airport as she outlined in her address at the Anniversary Symposium held on December 3, 2013 in which she described Simpson Bay as the "Sunset Strip" of the island, "offering a variety of entertainment spots, restaurants, discos, and water sports" along with the luxury yachts that are moored there, too.

On that occasion, LaBega, after drawing a picture of the transformation of SXM into an Airport City or Aerotropolis, said this would be impossible "without the involvement and the enlightened cooperation of the community of Simpson Bay."

"This involvement and cooperation," she added, "have so far been readily and willingly offered. I commend this spirit of constructive engagement on the part of the Simpson Bay community."

LaBega stressed then that "indeed, SXM Airport City is as much theirs as it is of the entire island. Simpson Bay is not only home to the two most important bridges on the island, but by embracing progress, the entire village would also be leading the way in the very transformation of SXM Airport, of their community, and of the whole island and adjacent hubs. Simpson Bay can therefore be considered the heart of SXM Airport City."

It is against this background that the Airport would be making a presentation of its vision and plans to the Simpson Bay Community Council at the earliest convenient opportunity, LaBega concluded.
