Readers are Leaders Club will be presenting a cultural evening to celebrate Black History Month in song, poetry and dance at the lobby of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 6pm.
Readers are Leaders is a reading program organized and supported by the Library and the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise. The goal is to promote literacy, specifically among high school students, and to encourage readers to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through writing.
Club members are challenged to read at least two books per month and submit reports about the books they have read. Prizes will be awarded to the students who read and submit the most book reports during the annual Award Ceremony in March.
During the cultural evening, there will also be a Book Quiz on three books authored by St. Maartiners namely, "Brotherhood of the Spurs" by Lasana Sekou, "Brother Rich, Nana Sweetie edited by Rhoda Arrindell", and "Rainy Season" by Deborah Jack.
The Readers are Leaders board has been working hard to make the evening a success. Snacks and drinks will be available to the audience directly after the presentation.
Students interested in joining Readers are Leaders can contact the library at 542-2970 or join its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/readers.a.leaders.
