Controls on blue lighting on vehicles On BES Islands

The Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland will soon start controlling of lighting that is applied on vehicles. It appears that on Bonaire, Saba and St.Eustatius quite a number of vehicles are driving around with other lighting than allowed by law. For instance blue headlights, additional led lighting, light boxes on the roof, blue led bars at the bottom of the car, etc.

According to the Wegenverkeersverordening it is required to have two headlights on a vehicle that shine white or bright yellow light and two rear lights that shine only bright red light.

Why is no other lighting allowed?
Other lighting than mentioned above, can lead to confusion in traffic. Besides, this may also cause danger. The following articles are therefore included in the Wegenverkeersverordening:

"It is prohibited to be on the road at night with a motor vehicle, while it is equipped with lighting that could create confusion for the traffic. Under confusion creating lighting is also included lighting at the front and back of the motor vehicle of a color, which is different from the lighting that is dictated by law ".

Warning first

The police will soon start with controls on lighting. Drivers of vehicles with improper lighting will first get a warning. Then the police will start giving tickets. Don’t let it come thit far and make sure you have the lights on your vehicle adjusted to the rules in force. This is in the interest of road safety.
