TelEm Group will be carrying out a range of software and hardware upgrades to its core telecommunication network starting Monday night.
Network consultants BTI are conducting the upgrades along with TelEm Group personnel. The upgrades will take place each night starting at 11:00 pm and ending at 6:00 am the following morning.
According to TelEm Group Network Engineer, Jed Carty, the upgrades are necessary to bring the company’s core network into line with updated patches and the latest system software.
"We are doing the upgrades to the core network nodes in the night and in the early morning hours in order to have the least impact on customers, but while the upgrades are taking place any of the services, including data, ADSL, SHDL and E1, landline and international voice, 2G and 3G mobile and roaming will be affected at different times," said Mr. Carty.
He assures that all services will not be down at the same time noting that the priority of the engineers and technicians is to restore services as quickly as possible once the new software is installed on each core network node.
The upgrades began Monday and will continue Tuesday night and every night until Thursday. Friday is reserved for any additional maintenance work that may be required.
"The end result of these upgrades will be to enhance our core network so that we can utilize many new features and improve the overall quality of service to all our valued customers," said Mr. Carty.
On behalf of TelEm Group management Mr. Carty has apologized in advance to customers for any inconvenience that may be caused by the core network upgrades.
An SMS message was also sent on the TelCell mobile network yesterday informing mobile customers about the upgrades and the possible effect on service.
