Minister Lake supports Sustainable Development of Emilio Wilson Estate;

Agriculture is an area for development

Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake said he is in favour of the sustainable development of the Emilio Wilson Estate.

Minister Lake said he is a firm backer behind the development of agriculture and small gardens in a sustainable manner. Heritage tourism is also another area where visitors to the country are taught about the heritage and the historical role the estate played in the country’s development.

The Nature Foundation according to Minister Lake has produced a "Provisional Plan for Terrestrial Protected Areas on St. Maarten," as a proposal to establish the St. Maarten Land Park, and secondly as a guidance document for developing the Parks once they are under management of Nature Foundation St. Maarten.

The proposed St. Maarten Land Parks would offer protection to the island’s indigenous terrestrial flora and fauna while allowing sustainable recreation.

"First and foremost, the Land Parks of the country are for the people and by the people, and the younger generations to enjoy and utilize in a sustainable recreational manner.

"Sustainable usage and sustainable development is the key to moving forward in the development of country Sint Maarten’s terrestrial resources," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Friday.
