Last week RCN/Communication made a promotional tour on Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius. The tour took place in support of the CN EXPO photo contest that was launched on September 2nd by RCN/Communication. From Monday to Friday there were visits to, among other things, the primary and secondary schools on the three islands, meetings with the three Island Governors, press moments and visitis to the youth organizations and the tourist offices.

Categories of participants

The photo competition distinguishes three categories of participants: the youth of up to 12 years, young adults from 13 to 21 years and adults aged 21 and over. Photos may be made with mobile phones, tablets and simple to semi-professional cameras.

Great prizes

Per each island three winners will be selected per age group, what will yield a total of 27 winning photo’s. The 9 first prize winners win a special camera, the Lytro. Specifications of this camera can be found on www.lytro.com/camer. In addition, also ‘The most popular’ and ‘The best of the best’ photos are selected. These winners win, next to the Lytro camera, also a holiday to Saba, Statia or Bonaire (your choice), which consists of a flight ticket for 1 person and a hotel stay for 1 week. The winner of ‘ The most popular ‘ photo is determined by the number of votes on Facebook. Anyone can vote on the photo of his choice via Facebook.

Ordinary citizens with an extraordinary view

The theme of the photo competition is ‘This is the place’, in other words ‘Dit is dé plek’, or ‘Esaki ta é lugá’. This photo contest for ordinary citizens with an extraordinary view, calls for young and old residents of the three islands to capture those spots that are special place to them. Participants can participate with one photo. These can be photo’s made of places of their island, but also from family, school, work or home. What matters is sharing the place you cherish, the place where you feel fine and that has a unique meaning for you. Citizens who wants help submitting (uploading) their photo to the relevant Facebook page can contact their own tourist office.

Islanders spontaneously join the contest and the number of entries is growing daily on the Facebook page The CN Expo:. https://www.facebook.com/the.cn.expo The number of likes is currently more than 700 and there are already almost 100 submissions uploaded. It is important that anyone participating this contest, follows the instructions on Facebook, in order to upload the photo correctly.

The exposition

On November 16th, 2013 a unique and cross-border photo exhibition will be opened on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. At this ‘CN Expo’ 29 unique photos of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba will be exhibited. The exposition is not the final of the project, because the tourist offices will use the photo’s to promote Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius abroad. Soon we will provide more information on the exposition and the winners.

The photo contest and related CN Expo ‘This is the place’ is an initiative of Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland, which works closely together with the tourist offices and youth organizations of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba and the Committee 200 years of Kingdom.
