Sports Clinic coordinated by Minister De Weever and The American Clinic
A Sports Clinic held over the weekend at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium and hosted by Iman Shumpert, who is the starting shooting guard for the New York Knicks, left a lasting impression on the youths who attended the camp.
The Sports Clinic was coordinated by The American Clinic (TAC) and Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour Hon. Cornelius de Weever. TAC and the Minister hope to continue this type of outreach program in the future.
Shumpert came to Sint Maarten as an Ambassador to TAC to speak with the country’s youth about keeping your mind and body strong.
Iman Shumpert spoke about health and wellness and what it’s like to be an NBA star.
"I was very pleased that our young people got the opportunity to experience first-hand from an NBA player what it takes to reach to the professional level of playing basketball.
"The advice provided will go a long way once applied on a daily basis in preparing our own young professionals. I look forward to working with the TAC in organizing additional camps for more of our young people," Minister Hon. Cornelius de Weever said on Monday.
Shumpert enjoyed his time with the youth who attended the camp, but had to get back to practice to prepare for the 2013/14 NBA Season.
The New York (NY) Knickerbockers, commonly referred to as the Knicks, was founded in 1946. It is a professional basketball team based in New York City, New York.
The NY Knicks is a charter member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and one of the benchmark franchises of American sports.
TAC is a patient centered physician guided specialty hospital committed to enhancing the health and wellness of the people of Sint Maarten.
Theo Heyliger was also helpful in organizing the camp, according to TAC representative Noah Sheer.
