With the signing of the statutes of association at the office of the Notary Boekhoudt the Mental Health Caregivers and Patient Association M.H.C.P-A., the association whose objectives are to protect and defend the rights of mental health patients on Sint Maarten, now has the legal means to roll up their sleeves and start to work.
-Raising the awareness and educating the various groups in the community on the responsibilities that are to be shared.
-striving for the health and well-being of persons suffering from mental illness
-To help overcome the stigma that is associated with mental illness and act as a platform between various groups within the community.
They would also like to achieve their objective by advising government solicited or unsolicited with regards to legislation pertaining to mental health and vice versa.
This association signed the statutes on the 12th of September and has as President Mrs. Veronique C. Elshot-Aventurin, as secretary Mrs. Myriam J. Haar-Wilkin and Treasurer Mrs. Minerva C. Pinto-Brooks.
The association already has about 40 members and is expecting to grow with new clients or prospective members very soon.
A General membership Meeting is being called for Saturday, September 21st, 2013 in Madame Estate (next to WITU"s Office)
Time: 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon. We are requesting the members and prospective members to make a special effort to attend.
Family members of mental health patient can sign up to become members at the Mental Health Clinic in Cay Hill also.
