~Registration opens September 2 ~
The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) is putting the final touches on a schedule for Carnival 2014 that will be almost three weeks of "mas" for the 45th anniversary of Carnival on St. Maarten.
The foundation will release its schedule soon which will feature official events starting as early as March with other mini Carnival related events even earlier than that. Additionally, in keeping with its belief that "early preparation results in better execution", the SCDF will open registration for Carnival 2014 on September 2, 2013.
Registration will close on December 1, 2013. The SCDF explained that the opening of registration next week is meant for "all things Carnival." In other words, registration will be open for troupes, bands, queen pageants, booths, Calypso and road march competitions.
The foundation, which has been working non-stop since the closure of Carnival 2013, have already finalized one aspect of Carnival 2014: its international concert nights. The schedule will feature six international nights. In addition to that, the Youth Extravaganza will also feature an international guest artist.
"When you celebrate a milestone every five or ten years, you strive to do a little more to make it memorable," President of the SCDF Mike Granger said. "We have a lot in store for residents and visitors alike who we will once again invite to ‘Come and celebrate life’, as our slogan encourages. We are coming off of a terrific Carnival year and with early preparation again, we’re looking forward to another season of fettin’," he said.
