Silvanico Pauletta, Section Head Prevention, Preparation, and Education & Training at the Sint Maarten Fire Department announced on Sunday that two days of workshops will kick-off on Monday and run into Tuesday in preparation for the Hurricane Exercise (HUREX 2013) drill on Wednesday, August 28.
The workshops are based on the scenario of a hurricane strike and how the various Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations will operate on the ground during a disaster.
The workshops are for employees of the Fire Department, Police, Emergency Medical Services, Ministry of Defense personnel, coordinators of the communication centers, Red Cross, St. Maarten Voluntary Corps, Windward Islands Emergency Medical Service, members of the Disaster Management Organization core group, and representatives of the core group from the Ministry of Defense operational level.
A multidisciplinary workgroup comprising of representatives from the Fire Department, Police, Emergency Medical Services, Ministry of Defense and the Department of Communication will be working in preparing the logistics for the workshop and drill.
A large scale drill will take place on Wednesday, August 28. The
Suckergarden Road will be closed for motorized traffic in front of the former BBW building from 8.00am to 12.00pm.
Motorists are advised to take note of the aforementioned road closure.
