Man stabbed during Opening Jump-up Parade

On Thursday April 18th while the Opening Jump-up Parade for the Carnival Season 2013 was on the Bush road heading towards the Festival Village a confrontation involving three young men took place during which one man was stabbed with a knife.

 

Police officer saw the disturbance taking place and immediately went into action to bring it to an end. The officers noticed that on of the young man had quite an amount of blood on his shirt and when they checked him out they realized he had been stabbed on the left side of his stomach. The victim with initials K.R. pointed out the man with initials A.C.J. (18) from Sint Maarten as the person who stabbed him. This suspect was arrested on the spot. A scissors was found in one of his pockets and a kitchen knife which was used to commit this act was found on the ground to this suspect. A second suspect with the initials R.A.H.P. (17) from Sint Maarten was also arrested in this case and a container of "Pepper spray" was found in his possession. All weapons were confiscated for further investigation. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The victim whose situation was quite serious was immediately operated on and then admitted to hospital for further observation. Both suspects were taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where they remain in custody for further investigation by the Detective Department.
