Prime Minister Opens First Public Service Center in Simpson Bay

With the New Public Service Center in Simpson Bay we answer people’s cry for Government Services in the Districts

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams on Saturday opened the Country’s first Public Service Center at the Simpson Bay Fish Market, an important step in her Government’s plans to increase the service of Government in the Various Districts.

"In 2010 a project plan was approved to implement the new Public Service Center (PSC). The goal of the project was to set up a PSC where all public services, government information and government products would be delivered in a client oriented fashion, based on an integrated approach. In this manner public service delivery would take place more efficiently," stated the Prime Minister.

"The concept of this Public Service Center is centered on the premise of improving Government’s services efficiently using modern technology. Now residents living "over the hill" can have the opportunity to make use o five government services at this location; the Civil Registry, the Receiver’s Office, the Tax Department, the Department of Social Services, Labor Affairs and the Customer Care Information Center, which is a part of the Department of General Affairs. This has been a long journey but now we have the opportunity where residents have the possibility to have the services of Government in their own district," commented the Prime Minister.

The PM also reiterated that the Public Service Center will also serve as an economic boost to that area of Simpson Bay, where the businesses and in particular the restaurants of the Fish Market will receive an extra boost. "Additionally this important and beautiful location will get an extra boost with increased visitation. It is good to see how all of the various departments have come together and cooperated on realizing this very important first step."

"It has taken a while and it has naturally taken a lot of work and cooperation but I am happy to see that we are here at this point and we are now ready to start and to move on into the other districts. For a long time the cry of the Cole Bay/ Simpson Bay districts has been for a service area in order for people to not have to travel to Town. We also know how it is where some of the queues and lines are concerned and so I am truly exited about this particular start of the public service centers," concluded the Prime Minister.
