Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports the Hon. Silveria Jacobs met with the talented Nicole de Weever on February 27th to discuss her ‘Art Saves Lives’ project.
Also in attendance at the meeting was the Head of the Culture department Neville York. The Art Saves Lives project is geared towards young St. Maarteners and focusses on enlightening, training and preparing them for a possible career in the Arts.
With this project I want to be able to give children on the island the exposure and opportunities to broaden their horizons and a have the possibility to pursue a career in the arts ‘ De Weever said during her introduction of the project.
The driving force for De Weever to launch this project was her desire to see more St. Maarten talent be exposed to and participate in Arts, nationally, regionally and internationally. "I was fortunate to be able to have these opportunities and to go abroad to further cultivate and showcase my talent. I would love for more children to be able to experience this." Minister Jacobs expressed her enthusiasm for the project and remarked that it encompassed a lot of the vision of the Ministry to promote the Arts on St. Maarten. In addition the Minister pledged her support for the ‘Art Saves Lives’ project.
