BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (CUOPM) – The Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has established diplomatic relations with the Government of the State of Kuwait.
"The Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between both countries was signed on Friday 16th November 2012 by Their Excellencies Delano Frank Bart Q.C. St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and his counterpart Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi at a brief, yet auspicious ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Kuwait to the United Nations in New York City," said Counselor at the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, Mr. Samuel Berridge.
He said the establishment of formal diplomatic relations with the State of Kuwait is consistent with the strategic objective by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to increase its presence in the Persian Gulf region in pursuit of trade and investment.
The Agreement also aims to promote relations of friendship and cooperation between the respective peoples of St. Kitts and Nevis and the State of Kuwait in the political, economic and cultural spheres at the national and international levels.
It is grounded in the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and International Law, inter alia, mutual respect for independence, sovereign equality, territorial integrity, and the promotion of friendly relations.
Representatives of both Governments underscored their commitment to working together in the framework of the United Nations Charter in pursuit of mutual interests.
