Friends, colleagues and "mentors" paid heartfelt tributes to outgoing Outside Plant Manager, Anthony Carty, on his last day of work Wednesday.
Mr. Carty was the "Man of the moment" as many of those who worked closest with him recounted stories about the "sometimes harsh-talking manager". He leaves after working at TelEm Group for the past 23 years.
According to long time mentor and former TelEm Group Outside Plant Manager, Mr. Lorencio Gibs, it’s all a question of knowing Mr. Carty well, because behind that hard exterior he is really a very kind and understanding individual.
Similar observations, and other accounts of their working experiences with Anthony were expressed by other colleagues, including Vivian Hyman, Margriet Jacobs, Windell Hughes, Stanley Faneyete, Donville Hodge, Steve Simmons and Jed Carty.
Many thanked Mr. Carty for teaching them about working to very high standards with whatever resources are available at the time.
On behalf of Management, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Mr. Brian Mingo wished Mr. Carty best wishes for the future and also thanked him for his work with the company over the years.
Mr. Mingo said the Outside Plant Manager has been working closely with the Commercial Department in recent months to reduce the number of Trouble Tickets and Service Orders handled within the company and should be pleased that on the day he is leaving those numbers have been greatly reduced.
Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Mr. Eldert Louisa said after 23 years in the Technical Department the departure of Mr. Carty will be a great loss to the company.
On behalf of all management and staff, Mr. Louisa presented his outgoing Outside Plant Manager with a giant photograph of some of the Technical Operations staff upon which many of Anthony’s colleagues had written their own messages of good luck and wishing him much success for the future.
Mr. Louisa said his own message sums up what he feels about Mr. Carty’s commitment and love for the company, stating that Anthony is leaving with the knowledge that TelEm Group is permanently implanted into his DNA.
An emotional Anthony Carty clearly enjoyed the moment with his colleagues and thanked everyone present and not present from the bottom of his heart for making his 23 years in TelEm Group, "special". He recognized that he may not have been the most agreeable at times, however, on most occasions, it was all well-meant. He took time to embrace the guest speakers who paid tribute to him and especially those who worked closest to him.
"I am not leaving the island, I will be here and my door will continue to be open to you all and to TelEm," said Anthony..
Mr. Carty received a complimentary parting gift from Management and Staff along with his signed photograph, which he says he will cherish for life. He also had the honour of cutting two cakes that he shared with staff.
And from the rest of TelEm Group – MUCH SUCCESS.
