On Saturday, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs, attended several functions organized for Senior Citizens.
Throughout the day the Minister attended the 2nd Annual Senior Citizens Luncheon in St. Louis French St. Martin. The luncheon was organized by The Rambaud St. Louis Freetown Fete Association.
This year the association of disabled citizens was also in attendance at the luncheon.
The Minister enjoyed a well prepared and elaborate luncheon and enjoyed the company of the senior and disabled citizens. The history of St. Maarten was the prevalent topic during the luncheon as the Minister listened with interest to the personal re-counts of those attending.
Live musical entertainment was provided throughout the day for dancing and enjoyment.
The day continued with the Minister visiting the Senior Citizens home in Hope estate. Control band was present to entertain the citizens and their guests.
Minister Jacobs conversed and socialized with the citizens and spent some time with her father who is a resident of the home. "There is so much history of St. Maarten with our seniors. We must ensure that this history is documented so that our younger generation can learn about our history," Minister Jacobs said of her visits with the seniors.
