World Teacher’s Day (WTD) is celebrated globally on October 5. The theme for 2012 WTD is "Take a stand for teachers!"
President of Parliament Hon. Drs. Rodolphe Samuel, would like to congratulate Sint Maartens’ teachers past and present on their special day, and wish them much success with their endeavours.
Samuel added that teachers’ play a significant role in our lives, in our society and in nation building. He said their pride with work, dedication to the job and sense of duty, befits this noble profession, and on behalf of the Parliament of Sint Maarten, a happy teachers’ day 2012.
According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), teachers, ultimately determine our collective ability to innovate, to invent, to find solutions for tomorrow. Nothing will ever replace a good teacher. Nothing is more important than supporting them, according to UNESCO.
WTD is held annually on 5 October to celebrate the essential role of teachers in providing quality education at all levels. It also commemorates the anniversary of the 1966 signature of the UNESCO/International Labour Organization (ILO) Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers.
