President of Parliament Hon. Drs. Rodolphe Samuel during his working visit to the Netherlands recently, met with Tim Delange, Dutch Second Chamber of Parliament Secretary General, and Chairperson of the Kingdom Relations Committee Brigitte van der Burg.
Samuel and Van der Burg discussed a number of pending issues such as the Kingdom Parliamentary IPOK Meeting, energy issues, education, inter-island transportation, double taxation and health care.
President Samuel says that the Dutch are interested to participate pertaining to the development of the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC), however, they need to hear first what Sint Maarten’s objectives are for the future of the facility.
Samuel’s meeting with Delange concerned the administration of the parliamentary secretariat especially where it concerned the recording of parliamentary sessions and the archiving of documentation.
The President of Parliament described both meetings as very informative.
During the President’s official working visit to the Netherlands, he attended an official farewell reception that was held in the honour of the out-going President of the Dutch Second Chamber of Parliament Hon. Gerdi Verbeet. The reception was also for those members of parliament who won’t be returning to the Chamber.
On Tuesday 25 September, Anouchka van Miltenburg was elected the new President of the Second Chamber.
