A.T. Illidge Road Repair Priority

On Friday morning, Minister in charge of VROMI, William Marlin announced that he had decided to put an end to the suffering of the drivers who use the A. T. Illidge Road. The Minister said that he had received many complaints about the bad condition of the road.

But, Minister Marlin said, that recently he went to take a look at the road himself and immediately ordered the repair of the road. Plans had been to upgrade the road completely, next year.

The Minister said that the road will still have to be dug up to lay certain cables, etc., next year, but he said, it was not fair at all to the road users to have them suffer for that long.

Many drivers have been avoiding the use of the road in the heart of Dutch Quarter, but the persons who live in that area have no other choice but to drive over the worse road on the island.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, it was decided to repair the road as early as possible. The section of the A. T. Illidge Road from the Belvedere Round-A-Bout up to the foot of Mount William Hill will be recapped. Work on the road will start as early as Saturday September 22nd. The milling will start on Saturday and Sunday, and the recapping of the road will commence on Monday.

Motorists are asked to pay keen attention to the works being carried out on the road on Saturday and Sunday and to drive with the necessary caution.

The road will be partly closed during the milling and recapping works and the necessary understanding for these works is requested by the ministry.

The ministry sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience these works may cause for the road users and the residents of the area. But by the end of next week, the residents of Dutch particularly and surrounding areas, will finally have a decent road they deserve.
