Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor, Cornelius De Weever met last Friday with the New York Executive Committee of the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE) who were here on a site visit, as they are planning to keep their 2013 convention here on the island.
"I am very pleased that this group of physicians have considered St. Maarten for their next convention, and we are looking forward to partnering with them in various areas," said Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor, Cornelius De Weever.
The minister further stated that this can be seen as another form of medical/health tourism, as the island tries to attract these types of events to our shores during the off-season.
The group of physicians were on the island from September 14th – 16th with their main aim being to meet with venues, local government officials and community-based organizations in preparation for their 2013 Convention. This Executive Planning Committee consisted of Practicing Physicians in the State of New York. The 2013 Convention will host approximately 200 Physicians (plus their families). Participation Convention attendees are Physicians who practice throughout the United States and Canada, and the small delegation is responsible for the convention agenda and support activities.
The delegation comprised of a neurologist, gastroenterologist, internist and pediatricians. The group further stated during their meeting with the minister that they want to engage the local health care industry as much as possible, and it is their desire to not only engage with the Haitian Community but also the entire St. Maarten community at large.
