Nature Foundation and 98.1 Pearl FM Launch Radio Program

Bringing the listener into the field

The St. Maarten Nature Foundation in cooperation with Pearl 98.1 FM will be relaunching the Nature Watch Radio Program to be aired every Friday at ten in the morning.

The original Nature Watch radio program was started by Jadira Veen, president of the St. Maarten Pride Foundation. The Nature Foundation has taken over the program with host Tadzio Bervoets explaining Nature in General and making the listeners experience some of the work which is conducted by the Nature Foundation in the field.

"The idea is to not only provide information to the listener about Nature on the Island in general, but to also bring the listener into the field with the staff and volunteers of the St. Maarten Nature Foundation. This way we can introduce people who are not used to spending time with turtles or pelicans or diving within the Marine Park for example," commented Bervoets.

The first program of Nature Watch aired on Friday the 14th of September with information on bat and bat research which will be conducted on the island. Nature Foundation staff were also recently in Bonaire where they were trained by staff of the Bonaire Nature Foundation STINAPA in the capturing and studying bats. Listeners were also explained why bats are important to the ecosystem of St. Maarten.

Next week’s program will feature information on Sea Turtles, Nature Education and research being conducted in the Marine Park. Nature Foundation Nature Watch will air every Friday from ten to eleven in the morning on 98.1 Pearl FM.
