Minister Jacobs pays tribute to Educational and Cultural Icon and Mentor Camille Baly Esquire

Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports, Minister Hon. Silveria Jacobs, paid tribute to the Camille Baly Esquire at his funeral on Thursday August 30th 2012.

 

A speech highlighting the life, cultural and educational endeavors of Baly was rendered by the Minister. Tributes and stories recanting the life and inspirational ideas of Camille Baly were part of the service prior to Baly being laid to rest at the Cay Bay cemetery. 

As an educator for many years, the late Camille Baly touched the lives of many in the community of St. Maarten/St. Martin. The wide cross section of the community that attended the funeral service reflected the many lives he touched.

In addition Government Officials from both sides of the island were in attendance.

Baly was honored by the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports at the first celebration of Emancipation Day. A diamond shaped plaque with numeral 26 engraved to signify the Diamond 26 slaves who had escaped slavery to the Northern side of the island was presented to the Cultural Icon. 

Camille Baly was a mentor and valued advisor, his passing is a loss for the entire St. Maarten community. His contributions to St. Maarten and its Cultural Heritage will be properly documented.
