More than 250 signed up for Friday Walk
The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams distributed pedometers to the first thirty civil servants who signed up for the Soualiga Challenge on Thursday. A pedometer is a device, usually portable and electronic or electromechanical, that counts each step a person takes by detecting the motion of the person’s hips.
The Prime Minister commented that she was very pleased at the turnout for Friday’s walk; "Originally we planned for about fifty people to sign up, but now we have more than two hundred and fifty people who signed up for the walk;" commented the Prime Minister.
The PM continued by stating that workers within the Government Apparatus have the highest potential to realize optimal fitness; "I believe that Civil Servants have a real high potential for realizing optimal fitness goals. Although I am no nutritionist I do realize that it is important to watch what you eat and one of the main ways of ensuring optimal fitness levels is to be active, hence this Soualiga Challenge."
The Prime Minister and members of her cabinet distributed the pedometers to the various civil servants gathered in the AC Wathey Legislative Hall. The Prime Minister also reminded those gathered that as part of the fitness campaign there will be Zumba sessions on the 5th of September.
