Disaster Coordinator Winston Salomon endorses the St. Peters community weekly hurricane season clean-up which is scheduled to kick-off this Saturday, August 11.
Other clean-ups are scheduled for the weekends of August 18, and 25. The primary objective of the clean-up is to prepare the neighbourhood against material damage and flooding caused by flying debris during the passing of a tropical storm or hurricane.
Residents have been asked to ensure that all unwanted items are placed on the sidewalk preferably by Friday evening, August 10 and every Friday prior to the scheduled clean-up dates.
Disaster Coordinator Salomon says that this is an opportunity for residents to get rid of old items and debris that lies around their yard and could become flying projectiles during a passing storm or hurricane.
Debris can also clog flood drains and waterways therefore causing severe flooding in the district or neighbourhoods.
Items that will be collected include old and or unused electronic appliances, furniture, household items, yard waste, car parts and accessories, and any hazardous waste.
The area that will be cleaned-up on August 11 is: Blue Berry Road, Passion Fruit Road, Honey Dew Road, Apricot Road, Cantaloupe Road, Grapefruit Road, and Kiwi Road.
The 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season has already seen six storm systems form so far, and many more are forecasted to develop in the coming weeks and months.
