Police officer ill-treated

On Wednesday August 1st at approximately 11.25 p.m. a Philipsburg patrol made a routine stop of a gray colored Toyota on the Sucker garden road in the vicinity of Gas King. 

The stop was done in connection with an ongoing investigation regarding a considerable amount of false American currency that was used last week in an adult Entertainment club in that area. According to the information that was given to the patrol is, that the suspect in the investigation was in that car along with three other unknown men. During the traffic stop the occupants of the car was informed of the ongoing investigation and given reason why they were stopped. Two of the occupants refused to give any cooperation in the investigation and started a fierce discussion with the officers. The situation became physical at which time one of the officers was attacked by the same two uncooperative occupants. The officer was punched numerous times in his face and then pushed to the ground. While on the ground the same two men continued beating the officer. The other officer helped the officer involved in the fight and at the same time kept his eyes on the other two occupants. The central police dispatch was informed of ongoing situation and sent reinforcement to assist in the situation. The two suspects with initials L.M.L and M.D. from Sint Maarten did not let up with their assault and continued beating the officer. The other officer pulled his fire-arm and ordered the two suspects to stop with their assault or he would use his fire-arm. The suspects seized their assault allowing the officers to take control of the situation. Reinforcement arrived on the scene and the two suspects were arrested and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station and handed over to the Detective Department. The officer suffered numerous cuts and bruises to his face, arms and knees, a hematoma next to his right eye, a cut to his nose and complained of severe pain in his jaw and right hand. He was taken to hospital for medical attention and is on doctors-leave unable to perform his duty. The suspects are in custody for further investigation.
