~ Soggy Sundays warm-ups successful ~
The Caribserve Video X Games (VxG) has surpassed its goal of getting 100 gamers to participate in the event which gets underway on Thursday July 12 and runs July 16th. The gamers hail from various parts of the Caribbean, as well as the US, France and The Netherlands.
To get the local gamers geared you and ready to go for VxG, organizers have been hosting a number of warm-up gaming sessions, which doubled as parties, at the Soggy Dollar Bar in Simpson Bay on the past few Sunday evenings. The events at Soggy drew a large number of patrons who participated in mini video game competitions. Organizers said they are “extremely happy” with how the Soggy Sundays turned out and expect the energy to be high when the event opens on Thursday at the Sonesta Great Bay Resort.
The Video X Games Foundation has strived for months to lay the stepping stones for the VxG to experience significant growth following the 2012 edition. The ultimate goal is to establish VxG as the premier video game competition in the region, taking advantage of a niche that is not fully developed in the Caribbean but quickly growing.
Recognizing the potential for growth and to extend St. Maarten’s off-season, several corporate sponsors have come on board including the title sponsor UTS/Caribserve, Caribbean Liquors & Tobacco and the St. Maarten Hospitality & Trade Association. Government has also contributed to the success of the event.
International gamers start arriving Tuesday to the island.
