The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) has decided to extend its registration deadline from December 1, 2011 until Friday, January 13, 2011. The SCDF, in keeping with its intention to start preparations much earlier than usual for Carnival 2012, had implemented the December 1 deadline a few months ago.
However, President of the SCDF Stuart Johnson said Carnival is all about participation and some regular stakeholders needed some extra time after realizing they missed the deadline. “So in the spirit of cooperation and making it feasible for as many people to participate as possible, we have extended the deadline. But it will not be extended after January 13, 2012,” he stressed.
The registration is for all aspects of Carnival. All registration forms are available at the security desk at the Government Administration Building and can be returned to the same location. The SCDF is particularly seeking potential participants for its Junior, Teen, Senior and Mature Carnival Queen Pageants.
“So far we have some interested young ladies but more is always merrier,” Johnson said, adding that more details about each pageant will be released on Monday, December 5. Junior Queen contestants should be between the ages of 7 and 12, Teen between 13 and 16, Seniors between 17 and 25 and Mature Queen contestants 25 years old and up.
Starting next week the SCDF will also increase the promotion around the registration drive through media advertising.
