On Wednesday afternoon family and friends gathered at the Hon. Henry Every Old Age Home to celebrate the 94th birthday of former Island Council Member and Commissioner of Saba, Mr. Peter L. Granger.
Mr. Granger has served his native island of Saba as a member of the Island Council from 1963 until 1991, and he also served as a Commissioner from 1975 until 1991. Mr. Granger served on the Executive Council of Saba with former Commissioners Will Johnson, Vernon Hassell and Lenny Hassell. And he has worked with many former Administrators and Lt. Governors. Attending his 94th birthday on Wednesday afternoon also was former Lt. Governor of Saba, Mr. Sydney Sorton who also served together with him.
Mr. Granger was in a very high spirit during the small gathering in which many of his favorite hymns were sang in his honor. His daughter Mrs. Jacinth Buncamper traveled from Curacao with her family to be present with her father on his special day.
One will remember the famous Granger Law that was passed by the Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles regulating the pensions for all former members of the Island Council and Executive Council. He is the eldest male at this moment at the Old Age Home.
