St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announces the appointment of Marjorie Thomas to the post of Team Manager of the West Indies Women’s Team for the tour of India in January 2011.
Thomas is the current Team Manager and Head Coach of the highly successful Trinidad & Tobago Women’s Team and has served as Team Manager for that team since 2005. The coaching portfolio was added to her responsibilities in 2009.
Thomas is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mount St Vincent University and Hunter College and she is also a WICB certified Level 1 coach.
In addition to cricket Thomas has been involved in various capacities in numerous sports in her native Trinidad. She has had involvement with basketball, netball and tennis among others and was a member of several championship teams in the Port of Spain Netball League.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Mrs Thomas who has been a mom to us on the Trinidad and Tobago team. She works hard and is someone who you can rely on," said West Indies Women’s Captain Merissa Aguilleira.
"Given that she is a certified coach she can also add in the cricketing aspect by assisting where she can on what would be a challenging tour of India," Aguilleira added.
Thomas is a Physical Education and Sports Officer with the Ministry of Education, a Physical Education Lecturer at the School of Continuing Studies and Sports Director of the Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago.
Former West Indies opener Sherwin Campbell continues as Head Coach and former West Indies Women’s player Stephanie Power will serve as his assistant.
