On Saturday evening SIMVA 2010 volleyball competition continued after a short break due to the weather situation last week.In the women’s match Nitro beat Super Six in a thrilling five setter.
Nitro initilaly almost lost their by default because of not having a starting six for the match. Just before the whistle to authorize the first service the sixth player arrived. Super six took advantage of the situation and jumper to an early lead of 8 – 3 with some well placed services by number 4 Br. Cocks. Super six never loked and won the firts set 25 – 22. Nitro with some explosive spikes by # 10 Brenda Brooks and Captain # 7 Erica Emer-Lake turn the tide and won the second set 25 -22.
The third set was more of the same with some help of # 6 Silveria Jacobs and solid blocks by # 11 C. Joseph with Nitro winning the set 25 – 21. In the fourth set Super Six recuperated with Coach Joyce Baly chamge strategy by sending # 2 elmora Pantophlet-Aventurin to set. This strategy worked with elnmora distributing the sets between # 7 S. Skeete, 10 Nadine Skeete and Br. Cocks to force the match to the tie breaker by winning the fourth set 25 – 23.
The fifth set is where bothe team brought all to the court hittiong and defending all the way but in the end it was Nitro who won the set 15-13 and the match 3 sets to 2.
In the men’s match United won theire match by default because the Funmakers did not show up. This placed United solidly in first place and still undeated in the first round.
Volleyball action continues on Monday with the last two matches of the first round. In the firts match United will meet Guess Who? and in the men’s match Babylons will meet Reptiles. Firts serve is at 7:30 p.m. at the L.B. Scot Sports Auditorium.
