TelEm Group technicians are presently carrying out urgent repairs to flood damaged underground telecommunication cables in the Saunders area.
The repairs were started late Tuesday evening after field technicians located the area of the damaged cable and identified the nature of the problem.
Manager, Outside Plant, Mr. Anthony Carty, said torrential rain from Tropical Storm Otto flooded a section of the company’s underground cable network causing additional damage to a distribution cabinet located nearby.
Mr. Carty said up to 150 customers in the Saunders/L.B Scott Road/Mary’s Fancy area have had their landline and internet services interrupted as a result of the damaged cable.
He said the company is effecting repairs right away and are scheduled to have the repairs completed before the end of the day today – Wednesday.
Meantime TelEm, Group has informed customers still awaiting repairs of damaged lines as a result of Hurricane Earl in September, that a further delay is expected as a result of the extra workload and lost days from the passing of Tropical Storm Otto.
"We have taken care of many of the existing outages by sending technicians in the field during the evening hours and at weekends," said Mr. Carty.
He thanked members of the public for being very understanding about the cause of the latest problems and appealed for their continued patience as TelEm Group technicians tackle their work schedules as quickly as possible in the worst affected areas.
TelEm Group management will be updating and informing affected customers about the progress of repairs in specific areas by contacting them directly during course of this week.
