On Tuesday evening, December 15, 2009, Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Orange and Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands will be guests of honour at the fifth Kingdom concert in the Town Theater of Zoetermeer on the occasion of the celebration of Kingdom Day.
The object of the concert, organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the municipality of Zoetermeer, is to demonstrate the connectedness among the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
This year’s theme is ‘Soul and Soulmates’. Several artists from all parts of the Kingdom, among whom Daniël Lohues, Dane Clark and Edsilia Rombley, will give substance to it. The band ‘Rhydd’m’ from Curaçao is flying over especially for the occasion and will also play during the after-party. A local contribution consists in a dance performance of pupils of theater training institute DAPA from Zoetermeer. The presentation of the concert will be in the hands of Jan Douwe Kroeske.
Since the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Charter of the Kingdom in 2004, every year the Kingdom Concert has been organized in a municipality with many inhabitants of Antillean and Aruban origin. In the Netherlands there are more than 124,000 people from the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
On the occasion of the first Kingdom Concert in Kunstmin Theater in Dordrecht the Queen was also present, Princess Máxima attended the second concert in De Flint Theater in Amersfoort in 2006.
