Each of the six migrants had had a different nationality and given the opportunity to arrange for their permanent permit during the course of one year.
The implementation of the BTA had started on November 3rd and foreigners, who had come to the island before 2006 but had not succeeded in obtaining the residence permit one way or the other, will be given until December 15th to submit an application. The conditions have been eased in the meantime. For example, employees whose employer is not willing to act as guarantor, may now arrange for the required finances themselves. St. Maarten had already issued the first permits two weeks after the implementation of the BTA.
