Preparations for Children’s Book week 2009 are in full swing and the book week promises to become a fun filled and educational experience.
Theme of this years book week is " Healthy Food" . Under the slogan "Books are Food for the brain" a wide variety of book week activities are scheduled at the Libraries premises.
The book week will be launched on Sunday November 22nd with the ever popular opening parade and a festive opening manifestation . This year all participating children will be dressed up as their favorite fruit or vegetable. The parade will start at 2.00 at the Government Administration Building, pass through Backstreet and the Walter Nisbeth Road and end at the Library.
The opening manifestation will start at 400 pm . Lt. Governor Richards and Commissioner Hyacinth Richardson are invited to perform the official opening ceremony. The Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinder drum band, Generation new status STM as well as the Shabba Djembre group will take care of music and rhythm. The Tsu Chi dance group will be present to do a special performance.
Other activities planned during the book week are cooking demonstrations by health educator Sabine Flanders, two book launchings, a run around food quiz and a poster competition.
The book week will be closed off with a food market on Saturday November 28th.
