On Thursday November 5th 2009 the new police station on the island of Sint Eustatius was offically opened during a well attended ceremony. The new police station is located on the Van Tonningenweg in the capital of Oranjestad and has been built on the grounds of the former police station.
During the construction of this new police station, the police department operated out of a building on the L.E. Sadlerweg at Bay Brow. This building was formerly the well-known "Talk of the Town" Hotel Bar and restaurant.
This ceremony was attended to by the Minister of Justice Mrs Magali Jacoba, Governor of Sint Eustatius Hyden Gittens, the former Minister of Justice Mr. david Dick, senators and Island Council members of the Island territory of Statia,the acting Chief of police Chief Inspector mr. Hildo Martina, Acting Division Head Inspector Quinten Rogers, representatives for the Commissioner of the BES Islands Else Woudstra , Commander of the Konninklijke Marechausse, Commander of the V.K.E., commander of the V.K.S. in Sint Maarten and many other dignateries.
As part of the ceremony several police officers, Immigration officers and members of the V.K.S. from Sint Maarten went over to Statia and together with colleges in Statia and members of the Marechausse marched from to the police station in Bay Brown to the New Police Station in Oranje Stad. A large gathering of the Statia community gathered in front the new police station and stood by and listened to several inspiring speeches given by the Minister of Justice and the Lt. Governor of Statia congratulating the members of the police force and especially the entire community of Sint Eustatius on their new police station.
As a special treat during this ceremony several members of the Sint Maarten Arrest Team who were also present gave the public a demonstration of what they do when called into action.
After the ceremony the public present were served drinks and food. A complete tour of the police station was also given to everyone present.
