During a patrol flight with the onboard helicopter Westland Lynx last Monday, a drifting ship was spotted with its doors and hatches open but showing no sign of human activity. The ship did not respond to radio contact either. Upon inquiry in Guyana, it appeared that the small supply ship ‘Island Princess’ and its crew had already been missing since September 26th.

With the help of the fast dinghy from the station-ship, part of the boarding team was sent to the ship to see if it was indeed unmanned. They searched the ship and concluded that nobody was on board.
In order to prevent the ship from endangering the shipping traffic, it was agreed upon with the authorities on the spot that the Amsterdam would tow the ‘Island Princess’ to Grenada where it was handed over on Tuesday morning, October 13th, for further investigation.
