Aruban parties do not want coalition

ORANJESTAD — Aruba will be going to the polls for the States elections. The hot potato is now already the formation of a coalition. The large parties MEP and AVP both prefer a majority government, although they do not preclude other options.

Manolo Giel of MEP informs that he is willing to form a coalition with other parties. However, party-leader Nel Oduber does not want to hold a ministers position if his party does not gain a majority. He would then take a position as parliamentarian in the States.
AVP propagates that people voting for the small parties will run the risk of losing their vote to MEP, due to remaining seats, but also because not one small party precludes a coalition with MEP. However, party-leader Rudy Lampe of the RED will do so "We will not govern with a party that is being investigated because of unsound governance."
One subject is absolutely out of the question for MPA, namely independence of Aruba. Partido Democratia Real (PDR) does not preclude any party, even though it prefers not to cooperate with the current governing party. Ultimately, the new Christian party Curpa does not preclude any party as long as they could agree with the Ten Commandments.
True to tradition, the large parties closed their campaign with a huge party yesterday evening. AVP had colored the streets of Oranjestad with a green light parade, and MEP held their final demonstration afterwards at Plaza Victoria amidst a yellow rigged out public.
