Conscious Lyrics radio magazine will pay tribute to the victims of the 1830 Marigot Massacre, according to Shujah Reiph host/producer of the program.
On September 26, 1830, a number of Blacks made a heroic bid for freedom from the unholy slave system.
Thanks to the diarist Joseph Richardson, St. Martiners know that this Saturday, September 26, marks the 179th anniversary of the "Revolt and Massacre of 1830" in Marigot.
The protest in Marigot was met by "the armed might of plantation owners, colonial officials, and soldiers," according to the book National Symbols of St. Martin.
Many Blacks were massacred where they stood and a number escaped, according to the National Symbols profile, which drew in part from Richardson’s account.
Jeffry who is presently researching more information on this historical date will share her thoughts on the event, when she answers to Reiph’s straight-forward questions linking past to today’s reality.
"It is with a great deal of admiration for our ancestors I recall this historical event," said Jeffry. Jeffry is the author of the 2003 publication 1963 A Landmark Year in St. Martin, which give historical account of modern St. Martin.
