According to Acting Director of Sector Education Quincy Harrigan there has been a flurry of school registration at different school locations by parents of undocumented students, age 4-6 years old.
This has caused a burden on the schools administration as a result the placement of these students has been delayed 1 – 2 weeks.
The Sector Eductaion is presently dealing with this unfortunate situation, of the 141 students, aged 4-6 years old, 58 have already been placed in public schools. The remaining students will be placed. There have been talks with subsidized schools to place these students as soon as possible.
For now students who have not been placed should go to register in their district, or closest location to their home.
For the most part, classrooms and hardware will not be an issue, the main concern lies with the availability of teachers, The education department will engage in a selection process to assign teachers from their database of potential teachers.
The Sector Eductaion is working diligently on these issues, according to the Acting Director of Sector Education, Quincy Harrigan.
"First though, these young students have to be assessed, and then placed. Contact has been made with their parents to inform them about the latest developments."
The Sector Education projects for these children that there will be a postponment of 1-2 weeks before they can enter the educational system. This delay will not have an effect on their educational situation.
As always, during the start of the school year, the days leading up to the fisrst day are very hectic.
The message I have to the students going back to school, Harrigan said, "take advantage of the opportunity to go to school and learn and study as hard as possible and leave out the bad behavior. I look forward to a very good year."
