~ELECTRICITY HAS BEEN RESTORED~
CAY BAY–Diesel Engine #12 has been repaired and is back online as of 4:00 a.m., Wednesday morning. The engine will be running at a reduced capacity to break in the new parts.
After a grueling week of constant engine repairs, the GEBE power plant technicians took the engine offline completely on Sunday to change out the piston ring after finding an abnormal amount of combustibles in the lube oil. In order to inspect the piston ring they have to stop the machine and remove the piston. It turned out that not only the piston ring was damaged but also the liner and the piston head. Consequently, all parts had to be removed and replaced which proved to be rather labor intensive and time consuming.
The engine is currently running at reduced capacity to break in the new piston parts. The technicians will be monitoring the engine very closely throughout the day and gradually increasing the load to a maximum of 80%. As such GEBE is not expecting any further load shedding today.
Diesel Engine #12 was the main cause for the major load shedding which has plagued the community for the past two weeks. The power plant technicians have been working around the clock for the past two weeks making emergency repairs and changing out parts to restore electricity. With the engine back online, GEBE is expecting the electricity supply to stabilize
