Members of the Vincy Cultural Association on Sunday held a luncheon for the senior citizens of the Henry Every Old Age Home in The Bottom. The luncheon was held at the Sunny Valley Youth Center, and also in attendance were Lt. Governor of Saba, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, Island council members Ms. Akilah Levenstone and Mr. Rolando Wilson. The blessing of the food was carried out by Rev. Terrance Rawlins of the Anglican churches on Saba.
President of the Vincy Cultural Association Ms. Margaret Child said that her association was officially established earlier this year and the association has held several food sales and dance parties and they wanted to do something for the community and they decided to honor the senior citizens of the Old Age Home. We felt that this group of people deserved our attention and we are happy that we were able to cater to them.
Members of the association also made use of the opportunity to say their countries pledge and they also sang their countries national anthem. St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be celebrating its 30th Independence anniversary on October 27th 2009, but on Saba the celebration will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2009. Preparations for the celebration is in full swing and within short the association will be announcing their events for the grand celebration on Saba which they are hoping to cater to the entire community of Saba with all of their tasty dishes from their homeland.
Lt. Governor of Saba, Mr. Jonathan Johnson said that he appreciate the gesture of the Vincy Cultural Association to do something special for the seniors of the Home for the Aged and he congratulated them and said that he is looking forward to their celebrations in October.
The theme which has been chosen by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for this year will be "As one people in many lands, we shape our nation with many hands".
At present the association has 32 active members.
