Curacao Day celebration on Saba is all ready to go

 

Preparations for the celebration of Curacao Flag Day on Saba is now all ready to go, according to members of the organizing committee. Spokesman for the newly established foundation, Korsow Krioyo Fundashon, Mr. Richard Maria said that his organization is now ready.

Mr. Maria told Saba News Agency on Thursday afternoon that everything is now in place and they are looking forward in being able to celebrate the day on Saba together with the many Sabans, and especially with those persons that were born on Curacao, or who have lived and studied on Curacao over the years. This will be the second year that the organization has organized the event on Saba and they are looking forward in celebrating in grand style.

Much work has gone into organizing the event for the day and things are looking good.

The events will kick off on Saturday morning, July 4th 2009 at 10.00 a.m. with a motorcade from the Juancho Yrausquin Airport to the Princess Juliana Sports field in The Bottom. At the sports field we will be having an official ceremony in which we have invited various dignitaries as well as the community of Saba. The program at the sports field will start of at 11.00 a.m. The Lt. Governor of Saba, Mr. Jonathan Johnson and the Leader of Government, Commissioner Christopher Johnson is expected to say a few words, followed by a few words from the Vice President of the foundation Mr. Willis Lucas. Faction leader of the PAR party on Curacao Mr. Dennis Jackson will be traveling from Curacao to Saba on Friday in order to be present and he will also address the gathering on behalf of the Government and people of Curacao. The invocation will be done by Mrs. Joyce Smith and the Master of Ceremonies will be Mr. Dave Levenstone.

As a special treat to the people of Saba, the band R.P.G. Musical Express from Curacao will be also present, with Mr. Reinier Lijfrock, Pempy Lucas and Giovanni Mercera. The Saba Drum band will also have a presentation and Mrs. Lydia Hassell Dance Group and eh Saba Cultural Group will also have a performacne for the community of Saba.

During the celebration of Curacao Flag Day there will be various Curacao dishes and drinks available for the community of Saba. The hoisting and singing of the Curacao Flag and Anthem will be also done. The Curacao Anthem will be sung by Mr. Reinier Lijfrock and the Saba Anthem and flag will be also part of the event. Mr. Chulani Levenstone will sing the Saba Anthem.

Mr. Maria said that the general public of Saba is cordially invited to attend the celebration and as a special treat he also announced that on Friday evening the band from Curacao will be playing at Guido’s in Windwardside together with our own Dj. Davio from 9.00 p.m. until 3.00 a.m.
