Members of the Police Force of Sint Maarten Saba and St. Eustatius came out in large numbers this morning at the Maho Beach Hotel, to receive detailed information with regards to the present situation and the future of the police corps of the Windward Islands. The team day under the leadership of the Acting Chief of Police Commissioner Ademar Doran was attended by the Minister of Justice David Dick, state secretary of justice Ernie Simmons, state secretary George Pantophlet (health) the Lt. Governors of Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius and representatives of the NAPB, ABVO and WICSU.
The team day was organized by the Acting Chief of Police Commissioner DORAN. It is the second time that Commisioner Doran, in this capacity, has addressed his police force. Besides dignitaries from the island of Sint Maarten, there were also members of the police force living on Saba and Statia present at Maho Reef. The approximately one hundred persons present were asked by the Acting Chief of Police to take an active roll in developing this police organization." Looking back a number of years ago, we noticed that we were not prepared for the constant new changes taken place" Doran Said, who for quite some time has been a member of the K.PS.S.S. Just as in society as in the police force there have been several new developments, which had a paralyzing effect on the force. Some members lost vision and some lost trust.The result of this was the lack of team spirit en drive.This has a lot to do with the lack of proper communication, according to commissioner Doran. With this team day, the management team consisting also of the interim coach Ronald Dongor and head of operations Lourdes Books-Lake are hoping to bring changes. Commisioner Doran invited the minister of justice along with other employees of that department to give presentations with regards to projects that have been executed for the last two years on behalf of the KPSSS. On Tuesday march 31st the official launching of the recruitment drive for at least 35 police officers for the island of Sint Maarten Saba and Sint Eustatius will take place. Mister Ivan Freitas gave an explanation of the improvement accommodation for the police.Through the PVNA ( Safety Plan for the Netherlands Antilles), all police stations of the Windward Islands will be renovated and expanded. All police stations according to the ICT manager Henry Parabirsing are completely wired for the use of the automated system ACTPOL for the police and ACTFMS for the Immigration. At the airport the border control system ACTBMS is functional. "What is important" according to commissioner Doran is ‘that the personnel learn how to operate the new systems efficiently. Training and upgrading are priorities. Minister David Dick has seen many positive changes within the KPSSS. The management forms a good team. There is cooperation, dialogue and communication. He is counting on everyone for their input and support for the future of the police force. The team day ended in a good sphere and the members of the police force showed a sense of togetherness.
