The new bookmobile has arrived at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library and will be officially unveiled on Sunday, February the 1st at 4 o’clock on the parking lot in front of the library. The new bookmobile will start driving the day after the opening and the new bus will not only be visiting primary schools but will also visit community centres in various districts.
The old bookmobile, which served young readers for a long time, had been up for ‘retirement’ for quite a while. A grant by Antillean Co-funding Agency AMFO made it possible for the library to purchase a new vehicle in the United States. The interior of the new bookmobile bus, manufactured in North Carolina by Matthews Vehicles, was especially designed to cater to the library’s needs.
The Library has received a lot of help in the whole process. Annemiek van Kerkhof designed the colorful images on the outside of the bus. Mr. Michael Ferrier helped the library with the technical specifications and arranged the transportation. Bernuth Lines transported the bus free of charge from Miami. Four Star Cargo prepared the export documents free of charge as well. The St. Maarten Ports Authority waived all harbor fees. Bunchie’s Garage thoroughly cleaned the bookmobile after shipment. And Brenda Wathey and again Annemiek van Kerkhof donated time en equipment for the inauguration of the bus.
Everybody is invited to attend the official opening on Sunday the 1st at 4 o’clock on the parking lot in front of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library
