St. Maarten Democratic Party (DP) Member of Parliament Erno Labega says all indications are that the situation with Social Insurance Bank SVB concerning insufficient compensation provided to clients travelling abroad will be resolved soon.
Labega said he had spoken with Chairman of the Board of Directors of the SVB Rudy Eleonora recently and had been assured that his complaints about the hardships faced by travelling patients due to the NAf. 60 that was currently provided as a daily allowance had been discussed during the last board meeting.
"I had asked them to review the matter and to see what could be done to better the situation for our patients. I want people to understand that it is not just like I started this process and will leave it there. No, I will see this through until I can receive some suitable agreement or a satisfactory decision from the SVB. I want to see us reach a resolution where they can appropriately take care of their clients when they are sent to Curaçao or other places for treatment," Labega said.
Labega said that based on Eleonora’s assurance that he was investigating the matter, he would wait and see what comments and suggestions would be offered to remedy the situation.
"It was on my insistence that this matter was broached once again, but as I stated before, there have been many, many complaints from patients travelling over the years. So I am going to keep working on this until our patients are properly taken care of," Labega said.
