WILLEMSTAD — An enormous number of petitions on the development of Wechi are waiting to be dealt with by the Island Council. Some months ago, there was strong resistance against the clearing of the terrain between Zegu and Malpais. Amongst others due to destruction of historical inheritance, natural values, but also regarding claims of alleged heirs of the former plantation. The activities were stopped, but the terrain is meanwhile being prepared for the building of many houses by FKP. For the time being, it is not clear when the Island Council will deal with the 140 petitions.
