Solution being sought for Starlight pupils

Starlight Education Centre Director Carmen Hodge is reassuring parents of the approximately 180 pupils of the school that a solution is being sought and once finalised, they will be informed.

The school, which has a primarily immigrant student population, was closed more than a week ago. Hodge told The Daily Herald she had been working on an alternative and negotiations had been taking place, but details could not be released as yet.

Hodge said parents had been calling her every day since the school was closed, concerned about when classes would resume.

Besides the pupils, 10 teachers and a cleaner have been affected by the closure. In addition, the school’s sixth-graders will suffer, as they were in the process of preparing for the upcoming secondary school entrance examinations.
