Oranjestad – Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland (RCN) and its units of Social Affairs & Employment and Immigration & Naturalization have cancelled the Town Hall meeting in St. Eustatius scheduled for Thursday, February 24th. The decision was made to cancel the meetings upon request of Island Governor, Gerald Berkel, who said that the he could not guarantee public safety with regards to the ongoing Island Council elections.
The Units of Social Affairs & Employment and Immigration & Naturalization have not set new dates for a new meeting. The planned Town Hall meeting was scheduled to address the IND Organization, the most important changes in the immigration and naturalization regulations, the procedures, work permits, welfare and income due to lack of employment. Town Hall meetings are held to afford the community the opportunity ask questions. In keeping with open and transparent government the community is encouraged to visit the RCN offices at Mazinga Complex for further information. The community will be notified when the date for a new Town Hall meeting on these specific policy areas is established.
