St. Martin Thanksgiving this Sunday: Live Re-enactment of Nativity to highlight start of Christmas

The annual Thanksgiving Service will be held this Sunday, December 5, 2010 in front of the Government Administration Building at the Clem LaBega Square, starting with Praise and Worship at 4:30PM.

Minister of Education and Culture, Rhoda Arrindell, pointed out that the entire population of St. Martin has a lot to be thankful for, especially given the fact that the island did not suffer any major hit during the just-ended Atlantic Hurricane Season.

"We need to count our blessings and come together as one St. Martin family, to give thanks to the Supreme Being for safeguarding us through this hurricane season, which the records show, ranks among the most intense in recent memory," Minister Rhoda Arrindell stated.

She emphasized that, as usual, the ecumenical Thanksgiving Service is being organized in collaboration with the St. Maarten Christian Council, St. Maarten Ministerial Foundation, and The Seventh Day Adventist Church.

"I’m hereby appealing to all residents of our beloved island to make it a point to attend this Service which will be followed immediately by the Christmas lighting ceremony and a live re-enactment of the Nativity scene at the hands of former members of the Independent Theatre Company of the late Ian Valz, and the Colebay Theatre Company," the minister further added.

Attending the event will be His Excellency the Governor of St. Martin, drs. Eugene Holiday and his wife, as well as other cabinet ministers. President of the Collectivite of St. Martin, Frantz Gumbs, will also be in attendance with members of his Executive Council.
